We transmit ultrasound waves into the patient’s body during a pet ultrasound examination using a portable instrument. These waves’ echoes return to the pet ultrasound device, where they are translated into detailed pictures. The lymph nodes, spleen, liver, pancreas, digestive system, kidneys, heart, eyes, and reproductive organs are all examined using this technology. Our veterinarians can even watch the heartbeat in real time using pet ultrasound technology. Unlike an X-ray, which only displays the organs’ size and shape, pet ultrasound allows us to look inside them. Using ultrasound, we can also identify and treat nodules, cysts, abscesses, and tumors. The procedure is non-invasive and poses no risk to patients.
Does a pet ultrasound exam require sedation?
In most cases, pets do not require sedation during an ultrasound procedure, as they can remain calm and cooperative throughout the pain-free examination. However, sedation may be necessary in some instances, particularly if a pet cannot keep still or if the area of interest requires a more detailed evaluation. Our experienced veterinarians will carefully assess your companion’s needs and determine the most appropriate approach to ensure a safe and comfortable pet ultrasound experience.
