February BLOG - It's the most wonderful time of year:

This is my favorite time of the year. No, it is not because Super-bowl Sunday is fast approaching. It is DENTAL MONTH. I love teeth. L-O-V- E  ‘em. Yeah I know it’s weird but I get to spend more time than usual hanging out around the oral cavity and it puts me in a good mood. I spend February skipping around the office singing “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” I actually think that it frightens some of the staff.

I really can’t say what it is that I like so much about teeth but I can tell you why a clean mouth is good for your furry friends. If you go into your dentist they will tell you that a bad mouth increases your risk of heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease and more. The same goes for pets. A mouth full of bacteria means that the body is constantly being bombarded by an army of single celled soldiers bent on destruction. No matter how strong your pet is eventually the bacteria will find a chink in the defenses and infection will set in. Sometimes these infections are obvious and sometimes they are silent until they have done permanent organ damage. It’s a pretty strong argument for preventative care.

If your pet already has signs of disease: bad breath, loose teeth etc. It is even more imperative that we get that mouth fixed up before more serious conditions develop. Some animals that already have mild liver, kidney or heart disease are still good candidates for dental treatment. We consider these on a case by case basis. If you are interested in a dental but have some concerns call us or book an appointment and we will talk about the best options for your pet.
